Common Weave Myths

Common Hair Weave Myths

In today’s blog post, we’re going to be tackling a few common extension or weave myths and misconceptions that you may have heard while researching this topic. Whether you’re a new buyer just looking for your first set, or are a veteran with plenty of experience and is in the market for new weave to add to your vast collection, it’s always a good idea to be informed and know the facts so you can make the best purchase decision.

Extension Myth #1: Weaves will damage your hair

This is one of the biggest myths out there that is usually applied as a blanket statement to all types of weaves. In reality, it’s mostly permanent types such as Tape Ins that use glue and heat to install that have the potential to cause damage. Clip Ins,  however, are the safest types you can use, especially if you choose quality Clip Ins (Virgin & Remy) and properly care and install them.

You should research the different installation methods before purchasing to ensure you pick the best type for your individual needs. Of all the installation types, Clip Ins and Tape Ins, are the safest to use and will give you length and volume very quickly. Those extensions types that require glue or any other physical bond to your hair or scalp do pose the risk of damage or even discomfort however, and is the reason why Clip Ins are considered the safest installation method: they clip in and you’re done! As a bonus, they’re also the quickest to install: within minutes you can achieve longer, thicker hair by yourself without the need of a hairstylist. See how quick and easy it is here.

Extension Myth #2: They won’t blend in with your own natural hair

This is another common myth that is easily avoided by choosing the right color extension and making sure to pick the texture closet to your own texture, and making sure your new weave is  made from 100% Remy, human and ideally Virgin and Raw hair to enable you to bleach, color, or dye to a perfect match with your natural  color if needed. You should also pick the correct weight, as this is what affects volume. Aside from those factors, if you install the weave in correctly whether it’s by yourself with Clip Ins or with a hairstylist with Tape Ins, Sew Ins, etc the key is to make sure the extension and your hair blend together seamlessly. Check out our video on installing Clip Ins and a step-by-step guide here.

Extension Myth #3: Your tracks will show

Nobody wants to show the world that they’re actually wearing a weave and a weft poking up through your hair is an easy way to detect that. The solution is actually quite easy, however, and that’s to make sure you’ve installed your weave in properly by making sure they’re clipped and blended in right. If you do this, you won’t see the wefts at all. You can even sleep in your weave and won’t damage your scalp! The trick is to place them in the “safe” zone below your eyebrow line and make sure you have enough hair to cover the wefts. And as a added bonus when wearing virgin & Remy hair- the textures are natural occurring so will blend in seamlessly with little effort on your part.

Extension Myth #4: All the extra hair will give me a headache

It’s true: you are clipping on more hair to your existing hair onto your head so you will feel a weight difference but after a short while you will grow use to it and forget you even are wearing a weave! If the initial weight is too heavy, you can always start with a few wefts and build up until you have all the wefts you need. A general rule of thumb to reduce any chance of head fatigue is to clip in each weft an inch or so down from your roots instead of at the scalp. When talking about other installation methods such as Sew Ins or Tape Ins, you should talk with your hairstylist to ensure that you install the weave with the least amount of discomfort. Again, as an added bonus, if wearing virgin & Remy human weave, then you will require few ounces to fulfill your dream look!

Extension Myth #5: Your weave will tangle and will be difficult to maintain

The awesome thing about Clip Ins is how easy they are to install, that they don’t require a hairstylist and the maintenance is minimal. Simply care for the weave as you would your own natural tresses to ensure that they stay healthy and last long. Don’t forget, your weave won’t receive that natural oil your own hair does seeing as how they aren’t attached to your scalp so you don’t need to wash them as often – just every 10 or so wears or when there’s a lot of product build-up that prevents styling. See this blog post on washing your weave to learn more.

Now as far as tangling goes, 100% Remy by itself doesn’t tangle as bad as non-Remy hair but regardless, if you choose quality extensions that are 100% Remy, human and ideally Virgin and Raw hair, you should have no difficulty in giving them a quick brush to sort out any tangles that may arise and have no issues whatsoever.

Conclusion
